Original Apple Shows May Be in the Works
Tuesday, September 4th, 2007 at 11:20 AM - by
Apple is apparently prepping to launch a new marketing campaign to promote the video capable iPod, and may even be considering producing a lineup of shows itself. The shows would likely consist of soap opera-style shows and weekly series that, like broadcast TV shows, draw viewers back for more, according to Smarthouse.
The shows Apple has been considering producing would be available exclusively as downloads from the iTunes Store. If successful, the shows could be a big draw and generate additional revenue for the company.
Production costs, however, have been a major concern, and could derail the idea. Some company executives are also against the idea and feel the company shouldn't stray out of its hardware and software business to create downloadable shows.
While it appears Apple executives have been toying with the idea of original content, the company's internal concerns make the chances of seeing Apple-branded content any time soon fairly slim.
