Rogers Comm: iPhone on Hold for Canada
Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 at 2:50 PM - by
Rogers Communications in Canada said that customers may have to wait awhile before the iPhone goes on sale there, according to Bloomberg News on Tuesday. They operate the only wireless network in Canada that currently uses the same technology as the iPhone.
Rogers is eager to sell the iPhone in Canada, but there is no release date set, according to the Rogers Comm. COO, Nadir Mohamed speaking in Toronto on Tuesday. A spokesperson for Rogers declined to comment on whether Rogers and Apple are in current discussions or even if discussions have been held in the past.
An analyst at Veritas Investment Research in Toronto noted that Europe's potential market is four or five times the size of the Canadian market. "I don't think Canada is on their [Apple's] radar screens right now," he said.
