Telefonica Discussing iPhone with Apple in Spain
Thursday, September 13th, 2007 at 12:10 PM - by
Telefonica, a Spanish telecommunications company, has acknowledged that it is in talks with Apple about carrying the iPhone in Spain according to the Spanish news agency Efe on Wednesday.
The news agency quoted Telefonica's Chairman, Cesar Alierta, at a meeting with Spanish media in London. MarketWatch released the news here.
According to Efe, Apple continues to seek exclusive contracts with only one mobile operator in each country. Efe reported that they didn't expect the iPhone to be marketed in Spain until 1H 2008.
While Apple is in discussions with Telefonica, it doesn't mean that company has the inside track, but with all the emphasis on Germany, UK and France lately, it's possible that those deals are in final stages and Apple is now starting discussions with potential new partners.
