Effects of iPhone Update 1.1.1 Being Assessed

There seems to be no widespread reports of any iPhone becoming permanently inoperable, at least yet, according to Pocket-lint on Thursday. However, even pristine iPhones are having problems.

Some phones that had been unlocked were relocked and a message that reported an incorrect SIM appeared. All third party widgets and apps were removed by the update.

At iPod Lounge, Jeremy Horwitz reported some problems with the first attempt to update a pristine iPhone. This reporter also had considerable problems with a pristine phone on the original Mac it was synced to and had to start all over on another Mac. The iPhone is no longer recognized by a PowerMac G5 but is syncing properly to a MacBook Pro.

iPO will continue to monitor the situation and report on problems with pristine iPhones and this September update.

John, how about reading the reports from one of your own SPONSORS!!!

http://www.iphonealley.com/news/iphone-updated-to-v1-1-1-say-goodbye-to-3rd-party-applications

"Updated at 4:20PM: iPhones unlocked with anySIM or iPhone SIM Free will put your iPhone in a permanent unactivated state. Do not update your iPhone if you've used any of these

Updated at 5:25PM: We've been getting reports that unlocked iPhones are becoming bricked. After updating, tell us how it went and if your iPhone was unlocked and/or if you had 3rd party applications installed."

Mine's fine. The iTunes store works great, btw. Effortless, like it should be. None of the 3rd party apps / hacks are still there, but I didn't get much value out of them except for minimal geek cred. I dont' have much use for 800 ringtones either, so I really don't care about the 3rd party ringtones lockout. I may buy a few from iTunes, though it's not a good deal, but it's better than the additional $1.99 or $2.99 I'd have to pay for a song I already purchased through iTunes to ANOTHER cell vendor if I wasn't using an iPHone.

I wish Apple was following a few different policies, but all in all I think the iPhone is a stellar deal, and this new update, for me, has sweetened it up fairly well. Better volume, a double tap " ." for txting, itunes store, and a double home-button tap with instant access to either cell phone favorites or iPod controls. Nice.

Updated my iphone last night - purchased and downloaded a single song from the wifi iTunes store, and attempted to play it. The phone spontaneously rebooted and then I was able to play the song. This morning the phone will not stop spontaneously rebooting (screen goes black, replaced with the white apple screen, replaced with slide to unlock screen).

"The iPhone is no longer recognized by a PowerMac G5 ...."

Is this a temporary situation until the next update, or are G5 users considering an iPhone purchase SOL?

As of 1300 hrs MDT I am still not able to sync on the PowerMac G5 dual processor 2.0 GHz (bought in Nov 2003). Talking to Apple Care. Meanwhile, all's well syncing to the MacBook Pro. Will update when I know more.
