Iospirit released version 1.7 of Remote Buddy on Tuesday with a completely redesigned user interface and a Leopard-style look. Remote Buddy allows the user to use the Apple iPhone and iPod touch as a remote control for applications, including iTunes, system functions, and as a presentation tool.

Version 1.7 introduces a completely redesigned configuration interface as well as a strongly extended version of Remote Buddy's integrated AJAX Remote. Also new is the the AJAX Remote's camera module, that provides users with a live view of their Apple iSight and also allows taking snapshots with it.

Remote Buddy as iTunes Remote Control

Remote Buddy fully exploits the Web 2.0 protocols to bring full remote control functionality to many handheld devices, including the Apple touchscreen products. It appears to operate as a native application, but it is not.

For example, using AJAX Remote, almost all aspects of iTunes can now be conveniently controlled via the touchscreen. Albums, artists and particular songs can be searched and found with the integrated live search or located via the built-in music library browser. From there, they can be played back directly or queued in the current playlist.

Remote Buddy can also be used, for example, to control Keynote or PowerPoint presentations with an iPhone or iPod touch.
