Review - XtremeMac TuffWrap iPhone case

The TuffWrap is a sturdy yet flexible silicone iPhone case (also available for the second generation iPod nano and the iPod video) from XtremeMac. Unlike some silicone cases, the material used in the TuffWrap is exceptionally slip-resistant (where others can be slightly slipery) and doesn't attract pocket lint (where others sometimes do).

I like the ridges on the sides, which make it easier to grip the phone. I also like that all of the switches, buttons, and jacks can be used without removing your iPhone from the case. I appreciated the included sheet of clear plastic film to protect the touch screen from scratches and smudges. And I liked that this case doesn't add a lot of bulk to your iPhone so it still fits nicely into most pockets. Last but not least, TuffWrap protects your iPhone from bumps or (short) drops better than many (if not most) other cases.

You will need to remove TuffWrap to use your iPhone dock. While it's easy to use the docking cable without removing your iPhone from the case, you can't use the dock itself. In all fairness, this is a problem with most (if not all) cases I've tested to date.

The only other possible drawback is that TuffWrap doesn't have a belt clip. I prefer my cases without them, but if you prefer cases with a belt clip, TuffWrap's probably not for you.

The Bottom Line

TuffWrap is a handsome, reasonably-priced case that doesn't add much bulk yet protects your iPhone from most hazards as well as or better than most other cases.

Just The Facts

TuffWrap for iPhone from XtremeMac

MSRP US$19.95

Pros: Makes it easier to grip your iPhone, not bulky, provides excellent protection against bumps and drops.

Cons: Can't use with dock, no belt clip.

Look for the "Plus" that adds a stand/belt-clip

Forget these things!

If Dvorak doesn't like them why should anyone else?

Wait on the zunephone, it'll be worth it!

Ah, I see that our resident 3-year-old has somehow gotten access to the keyboard.
