Vuzix Introduces iWear AV920 Video Eyewear

Vuzix has introduced the iWear AV920 eye wear. The device features a 62-inch (1.57 m.) virtual screen [viewed from 9 ft/2.7 m.] and twin 640 x 480 pixel LCD displays. It is compatible with all electronic devices with video out connections including game consoles, mobile phones, media players and iPods.

"Weighing just 2.9 ounces, the ergonomically designed AV920 is fully adjustable for maximum comfort, includes an AccuTilt viewer that pivots up to 15 degrees up and down. The design allows for use with or without glasses. The speakers on the AV920 can even be moved out of the way or removed completely for users that want to plug in their own high-end audiophile or noise-canceling headphones," Vuzix said.

The Vuzix AV920 is compatible with NTSC or PAL devices with video out. It features 24-bit color, 60 Hz progressive scan, and a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery with 4 to 5 hours of continuous operation.

The Vuzix AV920 is priced at US$349.95. Delivery is estimated at 2 to 3 weeks.

Isn't it going to give the appearance of a huge screen floating in front of you, running at really low resolution? I mean, 1024x768 is fairly standard around here and 1280x1024 is not uncommon. I understand the difficulties with designing something like this but 640x480 is so course.

From their FAQ:

"2.8 - Can I use the iWear VR920 on my Mac or Linux computer?

The iWear VR920 can be used as a VGA monitor on both Mac and Linux operating systems. Audio will work on a Mac, and should work on Linux. We are currently working very hard at getting headtracking and 3D functionality running on Mac OSX, but at this time, we are not developing Linux drivers."

You put out more FUD than the real Steve Ballmer.
