Review - NekFIT

NekFIT is a unique little gadget that lets you carry your iPod nano or iPod shuffle behind your neck while you run, bike, walk, or whatever, while eliminating tangled headphone cables at the same time.

Here's what it looks like up close...

and here's what it looks like in action...

Let me start with what I thought was good about NekFIT.

First, it's comfortable and includes three different sizes neck pieces -- small, medium, and large. It fits all generations of iPod shuffle and iPod nano. It has built in integrated wire storage clips to keep your earphone cable out of your way. And it's easy to insert and remove your iPod from the device (once you figure out how -- see below).

Which brings me to my gripes about NekFIT. While I tried hard to like it, I found the product more awkward than armband-style cases. My main complaint is that I can't see the screen or controls so if I want to change a setting, the volume, or track, I have to take the whole apparatus off and hold it in front of me. I have a short attention span and need to change tracks, playlists, or volume frequently, and that's much easier when you can see your iPod (as you can when it's in an armband case).

Another disappointment was the instruction sheet, which was unclear to say the least. Don't just take my word, take a look:

After puzzling over these "helpful hints," I had to visit the web site and look at a bunch of pictures to figure out the proper way to attach my iPod.

Another thing that bothered me -- the more active I was the more the device "bounced" on my neck. I never felt it was about to fall off, but it was a bit disconcerting and I never really got used to it.

Finally, I thought the price -- $33.95 -- was a bit steep.

The Bottom Line

I have to say this for the product -- it does exactly what it claims to do. But I went back to my armband case fairly quickly for all of the reasons outlined above. But if you don't care for armband-style cases for some reason, don't mind being unable to see your iPod while you exercise, and don't mind the price, NekFIT may be just the ticket for you.

Just The Facts

NekFIT from NekFIT

MSRP US$33.95

Pros: Relatively comfortable, multiple sizes in box, integrated cable storage, easy to insert and remove iPods (once you figure out how to do it).

Cons: Can't see your iPod without removing device from your neck, unclear instruction sheet, expensive.

Just came across this article. Have to disagree. I bought the product and love it. Man what a change from my armband. The wires always got in the way. Not anymore. Sit behind my neck and I don’t even think about it. Bought it for jogging. Finding I can use it whenever I want to listen to music and have my hands free – liking working in the yard. It really is a clever and useful idea. Thumbs up and give it a try.

I have to agree with Bob. This thing is great. Saw a recommendation from Networld WORLD as a must have gadbet for the holdiays. Tried it. Love it. Stays put adn its so comfortable I've taknbe to wearing it whenever I am listening to my iPod. In addition to wearing it at the gym, I now wear it when I'M shoveling snow. I can see using it when I mow the lawn. IT get to were I don't even knwo I'm wearing it. This is a thimbs up.

Don't get the comment about seeing the screen. I can fast forward and rpaly. When I'm doin' those things I mentioned, why woudl I need to see the screen. Not haveing to deal with the wires and being hands free is tremendaous.

This really deserves a second look.
