Piper Jaffray Raises AAPL Target to $250.00

Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster has raised the target price for AAPL to US$250 from $222 based on a detailed iPhone revenue analysis, according to CNBC on Thursday.

While Leopard's launch is expected to add US$240M to Apple's bottom line this quarter, the real story accrding to Gene Munster is a detailed revenue analysis of the iPhone in the outyears.

Mr. Munster is now modelling Apple to sell 3.4 million iPhones in calendar 2007, 12.9 million in 2008, and 45 million by the end of 2009. Based on revenue sharing agreeements with AT&T, reductions in the price of the phone, [leading to greater sales] and expanded worldwide sales, Mr. Munster set his target at $250.00.

"It's a compelling case, even as Apple shares continue to climb," noted CNBC reporter Jim Goldman.

I've generally ignored the slow slide of all things media-related from the Mac Observer to the iPod Observer.

But this one goes a bit too far. How in the world is AAPL stock information an iPod news item?

I complain mostly because my work network blocks the iPod half of the site as an entertainment site, but not the Mac half. So I can comment on this in the forums, but I have no way of seeing the article until I get home.

That's fine, I undestand that I have to get home to read about iTunes and iPods. That's not your fault. But am I now forced to give up on AAPL business news during business hours as well?

I think the iPhone falls more into the iPod catagory vs. the Mac catagory... I think... either way quit whinin' and get back to work and read this stuff when you get home.

Why not try out the Apple Finance Board? It has a lot more business information than The iPod Observer side.

I can get the information dozens of places. That's not really my point.

The point is that this is an article about AAPL stock prices. I'm mainly wondering when those stopped being Mac Observer articles and became iPod observer articles.

I understand the need to sepearte iPod and iPhone stories onto their own page. I'm not complaining about that. But isn't Apple stock a generic enough subject to stay on the Mac Observer half of the page?

iPod, iPhone, Apple TV & iTunes stories are always here at iPO. There was a change in editorial policy on Thursday such that, when interwoven with other elements, for example, AAPL stock price, they remain here at iPO.
