Deutsche Telekom: iPhone Demand Could Outstrip Supply
Thursday, November 8th, 2007 at 2:00 PM - by
A Deutsche Telekom spokesman said that they are expecting good results for the iPhone rollout in Germany tomorrow, according to the Associated Press on Thursday. They're worried about keeping up with demand.
"We assume that the device will find a very good reception on the market," said Rene Bresgen, a spokesman for Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile unit. T-Mobile was chosen by Apple as the exclusive distribution partner for the iPhone in Germany starting November 9th.
Deutsche Telekom's CEO Rene Oberman said that he expected big demand. "We're not giving out precise forecasts, but registrations on our Web site lead me to believe (the Christmas season) will be a strong sales period," he said. "The real question for me is whether we have enough devices and can meet customer demand."
While a few observers don't think the iPhone will elicit the same level of enthusiasm over in the UK as it did in the US, Apple, O2, and Carphone are ramping up and hiring an extra 1,400 staff to meet demand for the launch there, also scheduled for November 9th.
