Scotland Yard: Hide Your iPhone

If Scotland Yard is spot on, the iPhone isn't a must-have item just for the tech crowd. Apple's combination iPod and smart phone is at the top of mugger's wish lists, too, according to the Telegraph.

U.K. police think many street robberies are focusing on high-end handsets, and the easily identifiable iPhone will likely be a prime target.

Scotland Yard representatives noted "We are aware of the launch... of Apple's iPhone and we would encourage people not to attract attention to themselves when using a mobile phone in public."

The iPhone goes on sale in the U.K. on Friday, November 9. It will be priced at £269 (about US$567.95), and monthly service contracts with O2 start at £35 (about $73.89).

Why would you want to steal an iPhone.. can't it be tracked down easily? I think they've got their panties in a bunch over nothing.

Because a would be thief is going to be thinking about that when he sees a shiny new phone waving about his face?
