Vodafone Objects to T-Mobile's iPhone Contract in Germany

Vodafone has asked a German court to force Deutsche Telekom to make changes to its marketing of the iPhone in Germany, according to the Wall Street Journal [Subscription Required] on Tuesday.

Vodafone Germany sought an injunction because local laws allowed them to question the linkage of the iPhone with a two year contract and the limitation to the T-Mobile network.

The ruling stands until a hearing in Hamburg's court in two-weeks. The move by Vodafone is a challenge to Apple's marketing plan for the iPhone. According to the WSJ, Apple's efforts for this kind of exlusive partnership were foiled in France where, according to French consumer law, Apple must let other companies besides Orange sell the iPhone.

T-Mobile has stated that they reserve the right to claim damages from Vodafone.

Vodafone sounds like France. "Please Mr. Hitler, don't invade us." What a bunch of gawdawful pantywastes the Germans have turned into. You'd think there was some middle ground between Naziism and this.

Vodafone = Verizon. That might explain it. Also, Vodafone lost out to T-Mobile to carry the iPhone in Germany. From what I read, though, Vodafone may have a small problem in that some of the phones they sell are exclusive to them.
