iPO Quick Tip - Fixing the Post-Leopard iCal Sync Blues

Apple did a pretty good job of making the iPhone share information seamlessly with your Mac. After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.5.1, however, an ugly seam appeared in the fabric that stopped some iPhones from properly syncing with iCal. Luckily, there is a fix.

Here's the scenario:
Your iPhone synced without a hitch before upgrading to Leopard. Events whizzed back and forth between iCal and your iPhone without a hitch. After the upgrade, events in iCal make it to your iPhone, but events created on your iPhone never make it back to iCal.

Here's the fix:

  • Make sure your iPhone is not connected to your Mac.
  • Quit iCal and iTunes.
  • Launch iSync. It's hiding in your Applications folder.

  • iSync does more than sync your iPod and cell phone.
  • Select iSync > Preferences.
  • Click the Reset Sync History button.

  • Go to iSync's preferences.
  • iSync will display a dialog explaining what happens when you reset the sync history. Go ahead and click the second Reset Sync History button.

  • Reset your sync history.
  • Quit iSync.
  • Connect your iPhone to your Mac.

All of the events that have been trapped on your iPhone should now sync back to your Mac again without any problems.
