Blu-ray Player Prices Plummeting
Monday, December 17th, 2007 at 12:40 PM - by
The prices of Blu-ray players, some with 1080p output, are dropping precipitously just prior to Christmas. Both Sony and Samsung Blu-ray players have been priced at below $300, according to TVpredictions on Monday.
The Sony BDP-S300 player has been seen at Amazon, Best Buy and Circuit City for under $300. This player maxes out with 1080i and Dolby Digital Plus audio.
Perhaps an even bigger bargain is the Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray player which is selling at Amazon on Monday for $279.00. This unit features 1080p output, also upconverts standard DVDs to 1080p, and includes Dolby TrueHD audio support.
While these prices hardly match the fire-sale prices of the HD DVD players (Toshiba HD-A1, 1080i) for US$99 seen recently, and generally selling for $165 on Monday at Amazon, it may be marking a point in the price schemes where customers no longer care about the war or making the right choice since these Blu-ray players also play audio CDs and standard DVDs.
