TheStreet.com: Apple TV 2.0 Nails It

Apple has "nailed it" with the recent update to Apple TV, according to a review at the financial site TheStreet.com. The reviewer, Gary Krakow, didn't like the original Apple TV, largely due to the inferior (iPod-oriented) resolution that was available for video downloads from iTunes at the time. The higher resolutions available from iTunes and supported on the Apple TV has changed that.

Another source of praise in the review was how easy it is to rent movies via iTunes. Mr. Krakow praised the quality of the HD rentals, and that downloads "amazingly" start playing after 45 seconds. "All in all," he said, "video rental has never been this quick and easy."

The review shouldn't be mistaken for a comprehensive or in-depth look at the new Apple TV, but it is yet another positive review of the device coming from a mainstream source. From Mr. Krakow's view, the Apple TV is so good that it should allow Apple to become dominant in video downloads the same way it did with music downloads.

Yeah I remember their original review was very negative, nice to see they were willing to reevaluate the product and correct that.

Are you kidding me? They do that all the time.. that's how they make the numbers go up and down and make money on both ends of it.

From the Post: "financial site TheStreet.com"

Would you believe I actually missed that both times, I was so focused on the aTV end of the article I wasn't thinking about it as a stock thing specifically?

I've downloaded and viewed one HD movie. The easy, quality and experience is beyond my expectation. There is one problem, however. A member of my family depends upon Closed Captions (CC). Although I have Closed Captions set as active on my Apple TV and it alway available on TV programs, rented DVDs, the Apple rented movie was without CC. If Apple is not providing the CC option, it does not speak well of Apple and its sensitivity to the millions who need CC to enjoy movies. I would be interested in hearing if others have encountered the same problem and what might could be done about this issue.

Thanks.

You need to send feedback to Apple.
