Apple Flip Phone Patent Revealed
Monday, March 17th, 2008 at 2:25 PM - by
Apple has applied for a patent for a dual sided trackpad that could lead to a smaller, clamshell iPhone, according to UnwiredView.
The purpose of such a configuration is to separate the display and touch units. Some UnwiredView artistic concepts based on the patent drawings were shown.
The patent would give Apple some additional flexibility in design and could lead to a smaller, less expensive phone that some observers predict Apple would market to teenagers.
In addition, the whole concept could be applied to a small tablet computer. Of course there's a slot of speculation involved here. While patents don't necessarily mean a product, the patent does suggest that Apple is hard at work devising designs for its next generation mobile computing platform and wants to protect those ideas before competitors try to leapfrog them.
