Wolfson Loses iPod Chip Deal
Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 9:40 AM - by
Wolfson Microelectronics may not be drawing as much revenue from Apple Inc. if rumors that it lost out on a deal to continue supplying chips for certain iPod models proves to be true. The company confirmed that it was not picked to supply parts to one of its major customers, and a source close to the company claimed that customer was Apple, according to Reuters.
The company was hoping to supply chips for upcoming iPod nano and iPod touch models that are apparently due for release some time in the third quarter of 2008.
Panmure Gordon analyst Nick James commented "iPods have been a big contributor historically to revenues, so it's pretty disappointing for them."
The company, appears, however, to still be supplying chips for the iPhone.
