Nokia Siemens Doubles EDGE Data Speed
Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 12:10 PM - by
Nokia Siemens Networks is pushing up EDGE wireless data network speeds with the release of its Dual Carrier EDGE software. The software solution will let Nokia Siemens double wireless data speeds on current EDGE networks up to 592kbps.
The update should be available in the third quarter of 2008, and Nokia Siemens is also already working on the next planned speed bump for EDGE which will boost data download speeds up to 1.2Mbps.
Since cell handsets will need a software or firmware upgrade to take advantage of the performance improvements, iPhone owners could potentially be among the lucky ones that can apply an update instead of having to replace their handset.
