AT&T Officially Begins Starbucks Wi-Fi Rollout
Friday, April 25th, 2008 at 1:35 PM - by
AT&T and Starbucks officially announced the rollout of the cell carrier's Wi-Fi service at the ubiquitous coffee shops in the United States on Friday. AT&T is replacing T-Mobile at company operated Starbucks locations, and will be appearing at the stores throughout 2008.
The service will offer free Wi-Fi coverage to AT&T high speed Internet and Wi-Fi customers at over 7,000 locations starting on May 1. Other customers will be offered a mix of free and paid connection options.
Even though the two companies are officially announcing the rollout now, AT&T service has already been available in some Starbucks locations for at least a week. One Westminster, Colorado, Starbucks location near 92nd Avenue and Sheridan Blvd, for example, was offering AT&T Wi-Fi service on April 19.
Considering the tight relationship Apple, AT&T and Starbucks have, it seems likely that iPhone-specific Wi-Fi features could come to the coffee shops, too.
