Rumor: New iPhones Now, Tablets at WWDC

Apple could be planning an iPhone launch in May with a new tablet-type device appearing at it's World Wide Developer Conference in June, according to a rumor at Switch To A Mac. That rumor seems a little more plausible now that current iPhone models are no longer available at Apple's U.S. and U.K. Web sites.

Apparently Apple will be shipping its next generation iPhone the day after it is announced in May to avoid taking the spotlight from a portable multi-touch device it plans to unveil at WWDC. The alleged device will be about 1.5 times the size of the iPhone and will sport a 720x480 display.

So far, analysts and most rumors have placed the new iPhone announcement at the WWDC event in early June, which is still a few weeks away. The current lack of iPhones at Apple's online store, however, raises the possibility that new smart phones could arrive earlier than originally predicted.

That story at "Switch to a Mac" was posted on 21 April. This is not a new rumor.

That would be nice, but what about getting FCC clearance for the new phone. Those filings are published and available to the public, and since we've not seen or heard about them, I think it's unlikely that a new model iPhone will be available before mid-June.

You can bet that they have FCC approval but the FCC is holding the information under seal until release. This is not uncommon. If Apple releases early they will tell the FCC to make the information public early.

Sounds plausible. I always wondered if Apple is really so inept as to exhaust it's supply lines weeks before the replacement product comes out. I mean, that's more like a Microsoft thing to do. Okay, cheap shot there.

Apple have been making their announcements on Tuesdays during this year.

Tomorrow is Tuesday!
