iTunes Movies Debut in UK, Canada

Apple extended the reach of its movie offerings outside the United States with the Wednesday announcement that movie purchases and rentals are now available to U.K. and Canada iTunes Store customers. The U.K. iTunes Store is offering over 700 films and the Canada store has over 1,200 movies available.

U.K. customers have access to over 100 HD titles, and their Canadian counterparts can get at over 200 HD titles. Both stores are offering same day as DVD purchases.

The movies are compatible with iTunes 7.6.2, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod touch, the third generation iPod nano, and iPod classic.

Movies in the U.K. are priced between £6.99 and £10.99, and movie rentals cost £2.49, or £3.49 for new releases. HD rental versions cost and additional £1.

Movies at the Canadian iTunes Store are priced at CA$9.99 for library movies, CA$14.99 for recent releases, and CA$19.99 for new releases. iTunes Movie Rentals cost CA$3.99 for library titles and CA$4.99 for new releases High definition rentals cost CA$1 more.

A hint: I needed to switch to another country's iTunes Store then switch back to my own before the updated Movies submenu would appear.
