O2 Offers Free iPhone 3G

O2 plans on offering customers Apple's 8GB iPhone 3G for free if they sign up for one of the carrier's higher priced cell service tariffs. The 16GB model will also be offered at a substantial discount, or for free, depending on the tariff package.

The £45 a month tariff includes 1,200 minutes of talk time and 500 text messages. The plan includes a free 8GB iPhone 3G, or a 16GB model for £59.

The £75 a month tariff includes 3,000 talk minutes and 500 text messages. It includes a free 16GB iPhone 3G. Both tariff plans run for 18 months.

The iPhone 3G will be available in the U.K. on July 11. The 8GB model will be priced at £99, and the 16GB model will cost £159.
