Telstra finally made the rumors official: The cell carrier signed a deal with Apple and will be bringing the iPhone 3G to Australia on July 11. Telstra's subscriber base is up over nine million users, exposing the combination iPod and smartphone to even more potential customers.
Telstra's iPhone packages start at AU$30 with an upfront 8GB iPhone 3G price at $279. The 8GB model will be free with the $80 a month plan, and the 16GB model will be free with th $100 a month plan. The plans all include free Wi-Fi at Telstra hotspots and require a 24 month contract.
The carrier's information about its service plans is still a little thin, but it is offering a way for potential customers to register for additional details when they are available.
Apple will be launching the iPhone 3G in about 20 countries on July 11. Previously, analysts were expecting the Australia launch to happen on July 22 instead.
