Forbes: Apple Hushes Developers, Builds the Buzz for July 11

In order to increase the buzz surrounding the launch of the iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 apps, and the App Store, Apple may have been clamping down on developers, asking them not to tout their software prematurely, according to Forbes on Monday.

"Faced with a crush of media interest in the run-up to the new iPhone's launch July 11, some developers are talking to reporters, but they're begging off discussing specifics. Touchy topics span the technical details of their applications to the feedback they received from Apple," Brian Caulfield wrote.

Several developers reported that Apple issued warnings to them after they posted videos that demonstrated their applications, according to Mr. Caulfield.

While some developers are talking, others seem to be worried about what Apple might do their iPhone developer status if they offend Apple by going too public. That has put a crimp in the marketing plans of some game developers who are accustomed to hyping their games months in advance.

Mike Ghaffary VP of business development at Stitcher, whose company builds apps that deliver news and sports to mobile platforms, put it this way: "They are masters of building the buzz."
