Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 7:55 AM - by
Apple finally confirmed on Tuesday that its own retail stores will begin selling the new iPhone 3G at 8AM local time on Friday, July 11. AT&T previously announced on July 1 that its stores will start selling the new combination iPod and smartphone at the same time.
The official launch time only appears on Apple's retail store Web page, but not on the company's iPhone page or Web-based store site.
The iPhone 3G was announced on June 9 at Apple's WWDC event for application and device developers. It will add support for faster 3G wireless data networks while maintaining support for EDGE, includes a built-in GPS, access to authorized third-party applications through the App Store, and more. The 8GB model will cost $199 and the 16GB model will be priced at $299.
