Apple will be launching its .Mac replacement, MobileMe, on July 10 ahead of the official iPhone 3G launch. .Mac will go offline at 6PM pacific time on Wednesday, July 9, for the transition, but email services will remain available during the scheduled down time. MobileMe should be on line by midnight.
Apple announced MobileMe during its annual WWDC conference for application developers on June 9. Like the .Mac service it will replace, MobileMe offers online data storage and backup, Web photo galleries, email, and data syncing. It also adds push support to keep contacts and calendars synchronized between remote devices including Mac and Windows computers, the iPhone, and the iPod touch.
MobileMe will require Mac OS X 10.4.11 or higher, or Windows XP Home or Professional SP2 or later. It will also require iPhone or iPod touch Software 2.0, due for release on July 11, for full MobileMe support.
MobileMe is priced at US$99 a year, and current .Mac members will be automatically upgraded for free.
