Apple Releases iTunes 7.7 with App Store Support

Apple released iTunes 7.7 on Thursday. The update for the music and video organization and playback app adds support for Apple's new third-party iPhone and iPod touch application distribution system dubbed the App Store.

iTunes 7.7 is an important step in the iPhone 3G rollout set to begin on July 11. New iPhone buyers will need the update for compatibility with Apple's second generation iPod and smartphone.

The new version also added support for the previously rumored Remote application that lets users control iTunes over a local network from their iPhone or iPod touch, and includes support for iPhone and iPod touch Software 2.0.

iTunes 7.7 is free and available via Apple's Software Update application, or as a download at the iTunes Web site.

iTunes 7.7 is available currently for Mac OS X, but not for Windows via the Apple Software Update application. However, in iTunes for windows you can choose "Check for Updates" in the Help menu and get the download.

My ipod will not sync with itunes 7.7. Others seem to be having the same problem. What is Apple doing about this?
