Apple Releases iTunes 7.7 with App Store Support
Thursday, July 10th, 2008 at 7:40 AM - by
Apple released iTunes 7.7 on Thursday. The update for the music and video organization and playback app adds support for Apple's new third-party iPhone and iPod touch application distribution system dubbed the App Store.
iTunes 7.7 is an important step in the iPhone 3G rollout set to begin on July 11. New iPhone buyers will need the update for compatibility with Apple's second generation iPod and smartphone.
The new version also added support for the previously rumored Remote application that lets users control iTunes over a local network from their iPhone or iPod touch, and includes support for iPhone and iPod touch Software 2.0.
iTunes 7.7 is free and available via Apple's Software Update application, or as a download at the iTunes Web site.
