MobileMe Already Offline

Apple's MobileMe launch on Thursday morning may have been a bit premature. The Mac and iPhone maker began redirecting its MobileMe URL back to the service's promotional Web site only a couple of hours after taking the service online.

MobileMe is Apple's replacement for the .Mac service and adds the ability to push calendar, contact and email updates between multiple computers along with the iPhone and iPod touch.

The rollback to the MobileMe promotional page could be in response to unexpectedly heavy traffic after the Web site went live, or could be an indication that there were unforeseen issues with the service activation.

Once Apple brings MobileMe back online, .Mac subscribers will have full access to the services and will be able to login with their current user name and password. There is no word yet on when MobileMe will likely come back online.

I got on me.com briefly in the last five minutes, but then it appears they pulled it again.

I expect we'll have on-again, off-again access to MobileMe throughout today while Apple gets everything sorted out. Hopefully MobileMe will be stable in time for the iPhone 3G launch on July 11.

"Apple's MobileMe launch on Thursday morning may have been a bot premature."

Guess this article was posted a "bot" premature too. How about a little proofreading?

Why bother? 20 anonymous guests are more than happy to point out every little mistake and typo, rather than clicking on the author link and letting them know directly and privately.

Any word on when MobileMe will be working and .Mac members will be able to access accounts such as the iTunes store?

I have .Mac / MobileMe and I was able to get on this morning too but got redirected about 1min after logon, then around 2:00 I was able to get back on but same thing happened. I haven't had any trouble accessing my MobileMe email through the Mail app, or my iPhone. I also manually upgraded my iPhone to the 2.0 software and have been playing around with the app store and the MobileMe syncing is working. I have changed my iCal on my Mac and it shows up on my iPhone ~ 20 seconds later. so the service seems to be working I think they may just be having some issues with the web apps and getting them to handle the traffic and interface with the services correctly.

I can login to MobilMe, but so far it's unreliable at best and irritatingly slow. I'm hoping matters improve quickly.

I was able to log into MobileMe using the me.com address. Mac.com takes me to the Mac.com maintenance page. While I was in the site, I was able to watch the introductory video, navigate through the areas (I guess they are called apps), and edit a few addresses. It wasn't long before Me.com froze up, stalling Safari. After a Force Quit of Safari, I relaunched and attempted to log in again. Safari froze at the MobileMe log-in screen. A third attempt would not even load the log-in screen. My fourth attempt brought up the MobileMe maintenance page, apologizing for the inconvenience.

While I was navigating through MobileMe, the service was very, very slow... nearly unresponsive at times. At log in, MobileMe took me to me.com/idisk, from which I navigated back through the "apps." All my calendar and address book information was present, as the files on my iDisk. But the experience so far has been poor at best.

Clearly the migration from dot Mac to MobileMe (not very fond of me.com, to be honest) is not going well.

MobileMe, when it works, is PAINFULLY SLOW AND UNRESPONSIVE. What a mess!
