iPhone 3G Out of Stock in 21 States

Jim Neal used Apple's iPhone availability widget to catalog the iPhone status and found that of Apple's 188 U.S. Retail stores, 117 were sold out of all three models, according to Fortune on Tuesday.

Apples stores in these states indicated no stock at all: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin.

Customers can check after 9:00 PM local time to see what the availability is for their local Apple stores. The blog by Elmer-DeWitt noted that the iPhone 3G is sold on a first come, first served basis, so customers seeking the new Apple iPhone are often getting in line early each day hoping to buy one before they're sold out.

A company spokesperson for AT&T said that the iPhone 3G was sold out the first day with no prediction on when they'll be restocked.

In Colorado, only the Cherry Creek store has stock, 8 GB Black and 16 GB white.

I'm disparately trying to see the wisdom in Apple's master plan, and failing miserably. Apple let their stock of 2G iPhones deplete to the point that they didn't sell any significant quantity for 6 weeks leading up to July 11th, and now they've let themselves get into rationing mode. How many sales are they going to give up to RIM and Palm when people just get sick of playing this game?

The answer to your question would be "zero".

When the ATT store I was at ran out, they took my money with a Guarantee? that they would have a unit in stock in 7-10 business days with my name on it. It's reported that some other ATT stores did the same thing. If the country is really going totally out of stock on the units, I'll be surprised if I actually see a unit in a week or two.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go cry all over my currently satisfactory iPhone Edge unit.

The AT&T store made the same off to me (Freehold Mall, NJ). I declined thinking that I would get one at the Apple Store in the same mall in the next day or two. Boy, was I wrong.

I'm taking the 4:21am training into NYC to get on line at the 5th Ave store tomorrow. I want my iPhone.

I live in connecticut and waited in line for five hours on friday, the opening day for the iPhone 3G, and when I was five people to go, they ran out. I live in a rural town, so they only had 30 to start with. However, I held off on ordering it, figuring I could find one over the weekend. It's now 10:04 p.m on Tuesday, July 15th, and all of connecticut has yet to receive any inventory. Today I ordered my 16G iphone 3G in black and was told I won't be seeing it until the far side of 10-21 days. I am appalled that apple can't get stock out to stores faster and that you have no way of knowing when regular shipments are coming in so that you'd know if you should order. You also can't cancel, even if you found an iphone the day after ordering. I sure hope I see this phone in ten days.

As a tech savvy consumer who owns just a few Apple products but is not totally converted fan, I have to say that Apple has failed miserably in launching the iPhone 3G.

As luck would not have it for me, the launch of the new phone coincided with my being in the market for a phone, as I changed jobs and had to give up the free phone they offered me for the last three years. In essence I have no phone whatsoever. My wife having signed herself up some time ago with At&t, I'm sort of stuck with At&t as a carrier. That being the case, I could not see myself going with just some wackamole phone and saw the iPhone G3 as my best option.

After more than a week of mis-timed attempts at getting the phone, waiting in line for over an hour to not see it move more than 4 people (last Thursday), being turned away countless times, and hearing about how slow and unplanned the sign up process is, I AM one of the people Mactoid just mentioned - I'm moving on.

I hope Apple realized just how bad this will affect their brand.

The effect will be barely a blip, quite frankly.

I do love my iphone and the ability to download free applications with the 2.0 software...But thier marketing and sales CEOs are idiots. I am so dissapointed with the experience of trying to get the iphone 3g. If it wasnt for me promising my old iphone to my sister I wouldnt even bother. All you get is a lil bit faster speed and the GPS is a weak format. They better hope a competitor doesnt come out with something simular, cause I would surely go with them right now. They may have me by the balls now but next upgrade they probably wont get my money.
