iPhone Software 2.1 May Sport Better GPS Support
Friday, July 25th, 2008 at 11:05 AM - by
Apparently iPhone application developers have been seeded a beta version of iPhone Software 2.1, and the update is set to include improved GPS support. If true, that means iPhone 3G owners could get the turn-by-turn directions feature so many have been waiting for.
According to Gear Live, the new software version adds several new Core Location features that can track direction of travel and travel speed through the GPS that's built in to the iPhone 3G.
It looks like the version 2.1 update also includes a new version of the iPhone SDK, which could be necessary to give developers access to the enhanced GPS features.
There is no word from Apple on when to expect the first software update for iPhone Software 2.0, but it looks like direction-challenged iPhone 3G owners may soon have new ways to keep from getting lost.
