Apple Releases iPhone 2.0.2 Update

Apple posted OS X iPhone 2.0.2 software late on Monday. The description of what it actually does includes the stunningly terse phrase "Bug fixes."

It is not currently known if the update addresses the issue some have reported with 3G dropped calls and slow downloads. iPO will continue to track further details.

iPhone Software 2.0.2: Bug fixes (and more?)

Note: users who have unlocked their iPhone 2G should not apply this update until the iPhone Dev Team weighs in on whether the current PwnageTool is compatible.

iPhone and iPod touch Software Update 2.0.2 will appear in iTunes as part of the application's weekly update check when your handheld is connected to your computer. To force the update to download and install immediately, connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer and click Update in the iTunes Summary tab.

Backing up my iPhone before this is anything but "teh snappy". It's been backing up for about an hour now.

I've done two updates (my wife and myself), and the update took around 15minutes total. I have not experienced this long backup time that people are talking about. Both of the phones are 16gig 3G's, and mine (not sure about the wife's) is pretty full. No issues at all... --James Sanford

In a somewhat related note I just received an email from Apple saying that extended my MobileMe account an additional 60 days, this on top of the recent extension.

"We have already made many improvements to MobileMe, but we still have many more to make. To recognize our users' patience, we are giving every MobileMe subscriber as of today a free 60 day extension. This is in addition to the one month extension most subscribers have already received. We are working very hard to make MobileMe a great service we can all be proud of. We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around. Read this article for more details"
