Vodafone Announces iPhone 3G India Pricing
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 at 9:25 AM - by
Vodafone has finally announced its pricing structure for Apple's iPhone 3G in India, but potential buyers won't likely be happy. The 8GB iPhone model will sell for over US$700 instead of the the $199 U.S. customers are paying, which indicates Vodafone probably isn't subsidizing the cost of the combination iPod and smartphone.
The 8GB iPhone 3G model will sell for INR 31,000 (about US$708.98), and the 16BG model will cost INR 36,100 (about $824.53). In the U.S., the same 16GB iPhone is priced at $299.
Vodafone will be rolling out the iPhone 3G on its GPRS network because India's 3G infrastructure isn't in place yet, so customers won't be able to take advantage of the better-than-EDGE data speeds 3G typically offers -- potentially making the iPhone 3G less attractive to India's customers.
