Some iPhone Users Experiencing Syncing Problems via USB 2 Hub

Some users are experiencing iPhone 2.0 syncing problems or slow performance when connected to the Mac via a USB 2 hub.

Several sites including UKMAC and Wired have reported that syncing can take far too long when connected to the Mac via a USB hub, especially when there are USB 1.1 devices plugged into the hub.

The best solution for those having problems, according to reports, is to bypass the USB hub and connect the iPhone directly to a USB port on the Mac. Or try removing USB 1.1. devices like the keyboard/mouse from the Hub and plug those directly into an available USB port on the Mac.

This reporter has had a similar problem on a PowerMac G5 and both Belkin and Kensington USB 2 powered hubs. The iPhone 3G will sometime sync, but is often not recognized at all. If the iPhone 3G does sync, in a few minutes, the iPhone 3G will chirp and iTunes goes into an unresponsive mode with a spinning beach ball.

This problem never occurred with the iPhone 2G for this reporter, but thorough testing hasn't been done. Until Apple confirms the problem, or silently fixes it, communication on the forums, anecdotal reports and experimentation may provide the only answer.
