Best Buy Now Selling Apple's iPhone 3G
Monday, September 8th, 2008 at 11:15 AM - by
The number of places hopeful iPhone 3G buyers could score a combination iPod and smartphone increased on Sunday when Best Buy began selling Apple's handheld. The big box retailer can handle iPhone sales along with the AT&T activation process, so customers that aren't near an Apple retail store can still make their purchase and walk out the door with a working phone.
Best Buy announced in August that it had struck a deal with Apple, and that it had been training its Best Buy Mobile employees to properly handle iPhone customers. "Our Best Buy Mobile employees have the training and expertise to deliver the best experience possible for our customers -- from the initial purchase through the life of their iPhones," COO Brian J. Dunn said.
Like Apple and AT&T, Best Buy will sell the 8GB iPhone 3G for US$199, and the 16GB model for $299.
Apple's deal with Best Buy means there are more places throughout the United States where consumers can buy the iPhone 3G. It also means customers that haven't previously considered purchasing a Mac could be exposed to Apple's computer line up, too, which isn't possible in AT&T stores.
