iPhone Dev Team Releases Pwnage Tool 2.1
Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 12:35 PM - by
On Saturday, the iPhone Dev Team released their PwnageTool 2.1 for the iPhone OS 2.1.
In the team's blog, they explained how they've managed to overcome the iTunes 8 modifications without their own patches to iTunes.
They have also built a simpler QuickPwn version 1.1. This app is not a replacement for the Pwnage Tool, rather, "QuickPwn is for quickly pwning a device, whereas PwnageTool is designed to custom build and tailor the ipsw production process, both tools will be actively developed in the future."
With the release of Pwnage Tool, their version 2.1 and Apple's iPhone OS 2.1 are in numerical sync.
The PwnageTool 2.1 will:
- Jailbreak an iPhone 3G (2.1)
- Jailbreak and unlock an iPhone 2G (2.1)
- Jailbreak an iPod touch 1G (2.1)
The software hasn't been tested yet on an iPod touch 2G -- none of the team members has one, according to their blog.
