RIAA Annoyed with Defendant's Success, Seeks Sanctions

Attorney Ray Beckerman successfully defended a New York woman in a lawsuit brought by the RIAA. It cost the RIAA a lot of money in its loss, and as a result, they've accused the defendant's attorney of "vexatious litigation," and are seeking sanctions according to ars technica on Thursday.
"Defendant's counsel's refusal to cooperate in good faith and repeated frivolous motions designed to thwart Plaintiffs' discovery resulted in an unreasonable multiplication of these proceedings," according to the RIAA's filing.
Mr. Beckerman has made a name for himself by exposing the tactics of the RIAA, a successful defense, and his informational site, Recording Industry vs.The People.
The author, Eric Bangeman pointed out the irony of the RIAA's complaints about vexing counter litigation and publicity. "Complaining about Beckerman's engaging in a publicity campaign seems to be deeply ironic given that the RIAA has said that its purpose in filing these lawsuits is to get publicity for its view that [P2P activity] is illegal and needs to be stopped," Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) staff attorney Fred von Lohmann said.
Mr. von Lohmann added: "it sounds like most of those allegations could be leveled against the recording industry." In fact, the RIAA has made some grievous mistakes, such as suing the deceased and now finds itself accused of malicious prosecution by defendant Tanya Anderson who successfully defended herself against the RIAA.
