Columnist Makes Case for Apple Redesigning Mobile Search
Thursday, November 13th, 2008 at 1:55 PM - by
Apple is working on redesigning the search experience for its mobile devices, according to a mix of rumor and analysis by Michael Arrington at TechCrunch. The source of the idea are multiple, "if thin," reports that Apple has a big search-related project in the works coupled with the reality that the company isn't hiring search engineers away from other companies.
The conclusion, therefore, is that Apple is working on, "building a radically different user experience, which is much more visual than exists today" for its mobile devices such as iPhone and iPod touch. Mr. Arrington suggests such a service would still rely on Google for its actual search results.
With Google CEO Eric Schmidt remaining on Apple's Board of Directors as of this writing, it's reasonable to conclude that Apple isn't working on developing its own search engine, regardless of who Apple has or has not hired. Remember, however, that TechCrunch's analysis started with rumoresque, and unconfirmed, reports.
