Apple Rolls out iPod touch Software 2.2 with Podcast Downloads

Apple released iPod touch Software 2.2 early Friday morning, along with iPhone Software 2.2. The update for the touch screen iPod added the ability to download podcasts when away from your computer.

Users can now download podcasts directly to their iPod touch when connected to Wi-Fi networks, Safari stability and performance has been improved, pressing the Home button when on any Home screen jumps you to the first Home screen, and users can now disable keyboard auto-correction.

The update also fixed issues with scheduled email checks, and improved formatting for wide HTML email messages.

Missing from the iPod touch update, however, are the Maps application updates that iPhone Software 2.2 includes, like Google Street View, public transit and walking directions, the ability to display addresses for dropped pins, and the ability to email locations to other people.

iPod touch Software 2.2 is a free update for users that have software version 2 or higher installed, and it is available through the iTunes application.

If you are going to simply duplicate the iPhone story for the iPod Touch and mix it around a bit, make sure to remove the iPhone only info first...

The update also improved audio quality in Visual Voicemail messages, improved phone performance for fewer dropped calls and call setup failures, fixed issues with scheduled email checks, and improved formatting for wide HTML email messages.
