30% of Canadian Employers Ban iPods at Work

Thirty percent of mid-to-large-sized businesses in Canada have banned MP3 players, including the iPod, at work because of data theft fears. That number comes from an Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of Sun Microsystems of Canada.
In addition, 49% of those surveyed also prevent personal laptops and USB key drives from entering the workplace. However, Canadian employers don't believe they're doing enough to prevent data theft, with only 32% of them believing that they have adequate measures in place and approximately seven out of ten seeing room for improvement, especially among their mobile workers.
Ipsos Reid conducted the poll between March and May 2006, talking to senior decision makers at 259 firms. A subscription to the Ipsos News Center is required to read the factum and detailed tables pertaining to the survey.
