3G iPod shuffle: Dissected

Apple's new third generation iPod shuffle has been available for only a couple of days, but that hasn't stopped iFixit from stripping one down to its bare components so everyone can see what's packed inside the smallest iPod to date. The new shuffle's largest single component is its battery, at about the same size as a dime, and the entire player weighs just slightly more than two sheets of letter-size paper.

The new iPod shuffle includes 4GB of storage, but only a single integrated circuit, a couple of interface components, and what little is inside the shuffle is held together with a single screw.
Apple introduced the third generation iPod shuffle on March 11. The new model moves the playback controls to the included earbuds, sports a VoiceOver feature that speaks information such as artist name, track name, battery charge level, and more. It is available in silver or black for US$79.
