8 GB iPhone Sold Out in UK

After a recent price reduction, the 8 GB iPhone is completely sold out in the UK, according to PocketLint on Friday. The 16 GB iPhone at the standard price is still available.
"Our price promotion has given many more of our customers the opportunity to enjoy the iPhone experience," said a Carphone Warehouse spokesman. "Due to this unprecedented demand we have now sold out of the 8GB iPhone and we’re currently reviewing the stock situation."
The spokesman reminded customers that the 16 GB iPhone at the regular price remains available.
Carphone is deliberating whether to order more 8 GB models or wait for the iPhone 3G, widely expected to be announced in June.
It could well be that Carphone Warehouse either underestimated demand at the lower price or was engaging in some test marketing to determine the sweet spot for iPhone pricing in the UK prior to the iPhone 3G launch.
