Analyst Predicts Apple Could Cut iPhone 3G Production by 40% Over Current Quarter

In iPhone news, analyst Craig Berger has issued a prediction stating that Apple is likely to cut production of its best-selling iPhone 3G handset by up to 40% during the quarter as a result of the global economic downtown and changes indicating a weakened demand for consumer electronics according to Macworld UK.
"That the firms iPhone production plans are being revised lower suggests that the global macroeconomic weakness is impacting even high-end consumers, those that are more likely to buy Apples expensive gadgets, and that no market segment will be spared in this global downturn," wrote Craig Berger, an analyst at FBR Capital Markets, an investment bank.
The forecast is significantly more pessimistic than Bergers earlier prediction, announced last month, that Apple will cut its iPhone production by 10%.
Berger also commented that the production cut will affect key component suppliers including Broadcom, Marvell and Infineon, among others, which are expected to see lower revenues over the quarter.
