Apple/EMI Plan Media Event
Sunday, April 1st, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple Inc. and music giant EMI Group are prepping for a Monday morning press event. Forbes reports the joint event is scheduled to include Apple CEO Steve Jobs, leading many to speculate that the two companies will announce a deal to release recordings from The Beatles as digital downloads, or possibly the removal of copy protection from at least part of EMI's music library.
The event is being held in London, and will start at 3 p.m. London time, or 8 a.m. eastern time. EMI representatives are stating the company is unveiling "an exciting new digital offering."
The possibility of an announcement that The Beatles music library is coming to the iTunes Store, however, may be slim. When questioned about the media event, representatives from Apple Corps - the management group for the Fab Four's musical properties - seemed unaware of the press conference.
Apple Corps spokeswoman Elizabeth Freund replied that the Forbes inquiry was the first she had heard about the announcement.
