Apple Clarifies Monday iPhone Statement

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, clarified Monday’s statement by Apple. Regarding iPhones that had been unlocked, he said that Apple would not proactively disable unlocked phones, according to the Associated Press late Monday.
Apple appears to be positioning itself properly against some arguments that have been recently made about customer rights.
First, Apple noted that they have discovered that many of the unlocking methods have caused some software damage to iPhones. Commenting on a planned update to the iPphone for later this week which will add the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, Mr Schiller said, "This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked."
Some sites are now providing information about how to re-lock an iPhone so that it appears to be in its original, factory condition before Apple’s next update.
Those instructions are just as technically challenging as the original unlock process and not for the faint of heart.
