Apple Exec: iPod shuffle Interest "Tremendous"

Consumer interest in the second generation iPod shuffle has been above expectations, giving Apple Computer a positive outlook for sales this holiday season. Phil Schiller, Apple's head of worldwide product marketing, commented "Response to [the shuffle] has been tremendous," according to The Washington Post.

Some 75 percent of the MP3 player market in the United States already belongs to the iPod, and if current sales are any indication, that's not likely to change any time soon - even with Microsoft's Zune media player looking on the horizon.

Apple is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to actual numbers, but the indication is that the company expects the shuffle to sell in significant quantities.

The momentum that Apple has built with its iPod line up is likely to keep sales up, especially now that the redesigned shuffle is on store shelves. Looking forward to the end of the year, Mr. Schiller said "We're really excited about the holiday period."
