    • Most musical episodes of TV shows frankly stink. They are usually little more than ill-conceived vehicles intended to let the stars show off what musical talent they have. Once More, With Feeling,

Apple Launches "iPod 101: Master Your Music & More"

Apple Computer has launched a new iPod feature at the company's Web site: "iPod 101: Master Your Music and More." As the name implies, it's a collection of tips for making the most of your iPod, though some obvious advertising of Apple products and services is also included. The tips include instructional videos, written instructions, and other resources.

From the site: "If you're a new iPod owner or simply need a refresher course on how to get the most out of your iPod, you've come to the right place. Welcome to iPod 101: Your guide to rockin' out, gettin' down, and boogieing with your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle."

For instance, under the "Maximize My Experience" category you will find:

  • Lesson 1: Beef Up My Battery -- For all iPod users, if you want the ultimate iPod experience, you need to know how to treat your battery. We'll show you all the ways you can optimize your battery life to keep the music playing.
  • Lesson 2: Get Productive -- Your iPod isn't just for entertainment; it can also lead a buttoned-down life as a personal data assistant. Find out how to sync your contacts and calendars to your iPod, use it to transfer important project files or your tunes from computer to computer, and read notes.
  • Lesson 3: Give Me Games -- If procrastination is more your frame of mind, all iPods with a display offer some games to challenge your reflexes, brain, and musical knowledge. We'll get you started with each game -- winning is up to you.
  • Lesson 4: Keep Time -- Don't want to miss that important meeting? Find out how to set alarms on any iPod with a display. And if you have a Fifth Generation iPod or iPod nano, learn how to set clocks and alarms in multiple time zones, and how to use the built-in stopwatch.
  • Lesson 5: Secure My iPod -- If you have a Fifth Generation iPod or iPod nano, you can lock your iPod to prevent others from using it without your permission. Find out how in this lesson.

Other categories include iPod Anatomy, Crank Up the Tunes, I Need More Music, Show Me My Photos and Videos, My iPod is Sad (or Alarmed).

Note that this guide is particularly appropriate as the iPod market continues to grow. With Apple beginning to saturate the tech-savvy portion of the music listening market, the company will be acquiring more and more iPod customers who trend towards the un-geeky side of life. These how-tos, videos, and resources will be particularly relevant to those users.

Thanks to Playlist for the heads up on the new site, who in turn attributed iPodNN for first posting it.
