Apple PDF Cites Unannounced Touch Screen iPod
Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
An Apple PDF cited an as-yet unannounced (though long expected) touch screen iPod, in what appears to have been a mistake. Since first being noted by MacDailyNews Thursday morning, the developer document, called "iPod Notes Feature Guide" has since been changed to reference instead click wheel iPods.
The note originally read:
Note: Linking to photos and videos is supported only for 5th generation iPods running iPod Software version 1.2 or later. All other Notes feature capabilities described in this document are supported for iPod models with display screens, beginning with the touch-screen models.
It currently reads:
Note: Linking to photos and videos is supported only for 5th generation iPods running iPod Software version 1.2 or later. All other Notes feature capabilities described in this document are supported for iPod models beginning with third-generation iPod (dock connector) models with touch wheel.
Apple has long been expected to introduce a touch screen-operated, video-oriented iPod for some time, and has applied for various patents that support the notion. The note from the original version of the PDF could have been referencing a product Apple will be announcing, but it could also have merely been an un-edited draft from a now-defunct project.
As such, one can draw one's on conclusions, but it's usually best not to count Apple's new chickens until Steve Jobs hatches them on a stage.
