Apple Sells 50 Million Songs on European iTMS

Apple Computer has sold more than 50 million songs on its European iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in their first year, the company announced Thursday.
iTunes Music Stores were launched in the UK, France and Germany in June 2004, and now operate in 17 European countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The European iTunes Music Stores have catalogs of over one million songs each, and feature content from all major music companies and over 1,000 independent record labels.
In a prepared statement, the company did not break down individual results for each county and did not give a specific time period for when the songs had been sold. Apple said it sold 800,000 songs in the first week of operations for its iTMS operations in the UK, France and germany last June. Online music stores in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland opened on May 10.
