Apple Settles Squabble Over ‘Pod’ Trademark

Apple will pay the maker of the TightPod laptop case to stop using the word "Pod," according to a Bloomberg article published at China Post. It was revealed last month that Apple has been vigorously enforcing its trademark on the word "Pod," going after Terry Wilson, who sells the TightPod, as well as Mach5 Products, which sells a device called Profit Pod that tracks arcade videogame usage.
Mach5 owner David Ellison has proposed a "settlement framework" to Apple, according to his attorney. Ms. Wilson confirmed that she will change the name of her product, but she would not say how much Apple is paying toward the cost of doing so.
Intellectual property attorney James Pooley noted: "[iPod] is a short, easy-to-remember name, and one that has a lot of cachet. That means it's valuable."
