Apple iPhone Already A Success
Thursday, March 8th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Some analysts have already raised their sales projections for Apples iPhone, even though the launch is months away, according to TheStreet.
The belief is that Apples customers, loyal to the iPod brand, will push iPhone sales well beyond Apples target of 10 millions phones sold before the end of 2008. One Wall Street analyst thinks that Apple will sell 10 to 15 million iPhones in just the first twelve months.
In addition, Apples profit margins are sure to make it a financial success no matter what. For example, one estimate places the cost to manufacture the US$599 iPhone model at US$280.
However opinions vary on how well Apple will do against specific competitors. "Observers say the iPhone offers a direct challenge to RIMs hot new consumer device, the Pearl. But the BlackBerry business niche may not feel much pressure from Apple. The iPhones OS X operating system and lack of basic office software makes it almost a pure consumer device," reported TheStreets Scott Moritz.
On the other hand, the Palm Treo seems to sit squarely in Apples sights. One analyst thinks the Palm is doomed. Ovum analyst Roger Entner summed it up: "Palm is shaking in their sandals."
